Center of Excellence
The Academy for Crisis Management, Emergency Planning, and Civil Protection (AKNZ) is the central training and continuing education institution of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Relief and plays a key role in the integrated and efficient disaster response system. In addition to training and continuing education, the Academy fulfills the following functions: Center of Excellence for federal and state crisis management, forum for scientific exchange, and meeting place for experts from Germany and abroad.
New Campus
Three independent buildings form a clearly structured ensemble. A shared base structure functionally connects them and houses the ancillary spaces. Through scale, differentiation, and precisely defined interstitial spaces, an identity-forming center for the AKNZ is created a place for exchange, orientation, and movement.
The arrangement of the buildings responds to the landscape and context. Staggered heights, sightlines, and spatial sequences develop the campus into a cohesive communication space. Indoor and outdoor spaces, buildings and open spaces interlock to form a robust yet open structure for the AKNZ science hub.
