New urban building block
The subject of the restricted competition for architects as general planners in cooperation with landscape architects is the new construction of an elementary school and gymnasium, as well as the planning of break areas and outdoor sports facilities at Pufendorfstrasse in Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
The new building is a new school foundation due to the increasing number of pupils caused by the surrounding new residential buildings. The space program comprises a usable area of approx. 2,000 sqm for the school building, as well as approx. 1,500 sqm for the new construction of a triple sports hall. In the new construction phase, the school site is to be expanded to a total of 3 classes and supplemented with a sports hall. More than 400 students are to be accommodated.
Integrated sports hall
The design is convincing in terms of design, function and economy for the new school building, the structurally integrated sports hall and the surrounding open spaces. Together with the set modular supplementary building, an overall urban concept was developed. The planning was carried out under the aspect of sustainable construction in the sense of an innovative energy- and cost-efficient building concept according to EnEV 2016.
