Fire Station Pankow

Modern Fire Station

The subject of this competition is the construction of a new fire station in Pankow. A new location is planned at Löffelbrücke, as the old fire station no longer meets the requirements of a modern professional fire station.

The aim of the competition is to develop a design that is both aesthetically and functionally sophisticated, offers high-quality use, and convincingly integrates with the heterogeneous urban environment.

Winding and Band

The design incorporates a copper band that encircles the site and whose function shifts from building facade to courtyard enclosure and noise barrier, responding to the site’s specific conditions and building requirements. The material’s characteristic color establishes a symbolic connection to the site’s use as a fire station without overtly emphasizing this function.

Due to the open urban planning situation, the new building is designed in such a way that, on the one hand, it appears as a freestanding building within a heterogeneous environment, shaping the local character and making a confident statement, while on the other hand, it avoids grand gestures and yet expresses its functional orientation.
