Hotel at the Spreebord

Hotel tower

The design for the urban hotel is one of the concepts for the WerkBundStadt Berlin. The hotel tower offers about 80 guest rooms with 16 to 24 sqm on 7 floors above a high base floor with public uses and restaurants. The upper end is a rooftop club with lounge and bar as well as outdoor pool. The facade consists of red-colored water-painted coal-fired bricks and gives the expressive building its punchy and post-industrial appearance in the context of the neighbouring industrial buildings of the Charlottenburg cogeneration plant.

WerkBundStadt Berlin

More than 30 architectural companies from Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland were working in a cooperative process on the ‘WerkBundStadt’ project on an area of around 22,000 square meters on an industrial site in Berlin-Charlottenburg on the Spree River bank. Three different building concepts were developed by each of the thirty architects on selected plots of land. It is the vision of a new urban quarter with about 1,000 residential units, commercial, hotels and infrastructure for the ‘Modern Living and Living of the Future’.
