Postblockareal South

Ministry with apartments

Two functionally separate buildings with different uses are being developed in the competition area. Together they form an ensemble that enriches and complements the surrounding area with its important buildings, open spaces and urban spaces through clearly structured and moderately appropriate architecture. The design for the differentiated urban building block acts as a mediator between the existing and future planned buildings in the area and develops an independent, powerful language. Ultra-modern, flexible working environments are being created on around 26,000 square meters of usable space as well as around 85 apartments and public uses, primarily for ministry employees.

Structure

The ministry will be complemented by housing, which will be integrated into the ensemble while remaining independent. The clearly cut building ensemble will be divided all around into a solid base and an open, layered façade on the upper floors. Recycled exposed concrete is proposed on the ground floor, and a wood panel façade on the upper floors, with an open grid structure made of lightweight fiber concrete in front of it as structural sun protection. In the residential building, this structure will be used with great spatial depth to ensure privacy and effective shading to the south.
